the thing that makes me sad about old photos like these is that they can always remember the year it was taken and who took it but there’s never any names as to who the people in the photos are

I went to an indigenous feminism exhibition in Wellington 2 years ago and they explored the use of women in imagery and photography. One artist had found a post card with one of her tupuna on it with no name. She created an image using her face, it was blacked out and it was honestly one of the most powerful images I have ever seen. All that was visible was the top half of her body and her hair.
